German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said he was “doing very well” on Tuesday morning, hours after being hospitalized on Monday evening.
Bild first reported Altmaier was taken by ambulance to receive emergency treatment at Charité hospital in Berlin, with the news agency DPA reporting that he was taken to hospital during a Bundestag Economic Committee dinner at a hotel in Berlin. Bild wrote that meeting attendees noted that Altmaier said he didn’t feel well before the rally and struggled to find his words.
“Thank you for the many wishes which moved me very much. I am again very well. After a busy day, going to the hospital was a precautionary measure. However, the tests so far have not confirmed the concerns of my colleagues, âsaid Altmaier on Twitter early Tuesday morning.
Green MP Dieter Janecek, who was at the meeting with Altmaier, said in a Facebook Publish that shortly after thanking Altmaier on behalf of his party for working together over the years, the minister had to leave due to health concerns.
Janecek also expressed his frustration that the news had leaked to the press so quickly.
âI wish Peter Altmaier a speedy and good recovery. Yes, these are tense times so close to a game-changing election, but let’s please continue to deal with each other in a way where we don’t regret our words after the vote â, Janecek wrote on Monday, referring to Upcoming Elections in Germany.
Christian Lindner, leader of the liberal FDP party, also wished Altmaier good luck.
âYou are a fighter with whom we like to argue. But when it comes to health, there is no competition, âLindner tweeted.
Paul Ziemiak, Secretary General of the Center-Right Christian Democratic Union of Altmaier, tweeted late Monday night: “See you soon, dear @peteraltmaier!”
